On the Road - DuPont, WA

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

On March 2nd, Geared Up expanded to Pioneer Middle School in DuPont, WA, and it was fantastic!

The students were from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, and multiple different classes. To start off, I had the students split up into teams of 3 with 1 student from each grade.

After the teams were decided, we dove right into the rest of the day!

We started off with our first challenge, We Will Rebuild.

After the success of our first challenge, we moved on to learning about civil engineering, and did the Loadrunner challenge!

After this, we moved on to learn about the world of industrial engineering, and we completed Marshmallowpocalypse. This challenge ended with a marshmallow launch competition!

Next, the students became mechanical engineers and designed their ideal roller coaster during Roller Coaster Ride! We got some really creative ideas for this challenge!

Then, we went on to do our last design project for the day – Squishy Circuits! This one was a lot of fun, and the students enjoyed trying new things to see how they could change the circuits!

This session was really successful, and the students learned a lot! I even got to explore Seattle a little afterwards! I can’t wait until the next session!
